TENT PERMITS
Permits for tents must meet Fire and Life Safety Codes. Requirements include compliance with Chapter 31 of the California Fire Code, Title-19, and the State Fire Marshal’s regulations. Operational permits are required for tents larger than 400 sq. ft. (CFC 105.7.18). Fees, inspections, and timelines depend on the local jurisdiction.
PERMIT PROCESSING & APPLICATION SUBMISSION BY MADE IN THE SHADE
Made in the Shade will, when necessary, facilitate the processing and payment for the tent permits on behalf of the customer. This service is an add-on to the rental equipment and required for certain rental reservations.
RENTAL RESERVATIONS MUST BE CONFIRMED WITH SIGNED RESERVATIONS
DOCUMENTS AND A PAYMENT APPLIED FOR TENT PERMIT PROCESSING TO BEGIN.

Delays in the submission of a payment to confirm may result in higher tent permit processing fees imposed by the the issuing agency, Made in the Shade, or both.
Delays in tent permit processing may also result in the denial of a tent permit from the issuing agency.

DEPOSIT AND PROCESSING
Permit Fees: Vary by jurisdiction and imposed by the Fire Department.
Processing Fees: Based on documentation preparation and assessed by Made in the Shade.
Deposit Required: A deposit must be received before permit submission.
Expedited Reservations: Rentals requiring permits that are confirmed within 2 weeks of delivery may incur extra fees to process on time. Reservations with less than 2 weeks of lead time will require special accommodations, which are not guaranteed.
Changes: Changes to the installation that no longer reflects the layouts provided to as listed on the rental order.
INCLUDED SERVICES
Diagrams: Showing tent placement and accessories.
Flame Certificates: Validating flame-retardant materials per state regulations.
Engineering: Certified drawings – obtained from a structural engineer, typically customized and site specific. Generally, this process requires 4 weeks of lead time and pricing starts at or around $2,000.00 and can be as high as $3,500.00.
SAFETY PACKAGES & FIRE CODE

AND AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION.
FIRE DEPARTMENTS MAY NOT ACCEPT CHANGES MADE AFTER AN APPLICATION IN UNDER REVIEW.

PERMIT PROCESSING & APPLICATION SUBMISSION BY CUSTOMER
Customers may elect to process a required tent permit independently or in conjunction with other event related permits; however, requesting flame certificates, applications, or other documents in relation to tent permit processing will be charged a la carte. Items like diagram creation or stamped engineering will carry premium charges.
Clients that submit their own tent permit application will need to provide proof of the approved permit prior to the delivery of equipment.
PROCESSING BULLETPOINTS
Diagrams: Submit 4 weeks prior to installation. Submit any DIY diagrams directly into the upload field within the Delivery Preparation Form.
Optional: Made in the Shade diagram services at $75/hour (first 3 flame certificates included; $15 each additional).
Engineering: Wet Stamp Engineering documents start around $2,000+ and require 4+ week lead time in advance of the permit submission deadline.
Inspections: Same rules as Made in the Shade processing.
INSPECTIONS
The scheduling of a tent inspection may coincide with the completion of the installation while the crew is on-site. Inspectors who require modifications to a final set requiring the return of Made in the Shade crews. Return trips to the installation site will include additional transportation and labor fees.
While Crew is on-site: Crew Leads on-site during the inspection will meet with the Fire Inspector
Attendance by Customer: Customers must attend inspections or provide a representative to meet with the inspector.
Attendance buy Made in the Shade: For Made in the Shade to attend an inspection outside of the original installation time frame the fees begin at $150/hour for each staff member and will include travel to and from the site.
ADJUSTMENTS MADE BY FIRE DEPARTMENT
Inspectors may include changes to the set up or placement of items within the tent as a condition for approval. Interior modifications for items belonging a 3rd party with be their responsibility. Upon the completion of the conditions of the inspector, the 3rd party will notify Made in the Shade who will communicate the completion to the inspector.
On-site changes requested by the inspector that are tenting specific incur charges for the following:
Travel and crew time. This includes travel to and from the installation site an d any return trips.
Equipment adjustments or replacements. Made in the Shade is beholden to the guidance and requirements provided by the on-site inspector. Inspectors may express concern for public safety once on-site and impose conditions for approval. These cases are rare but they can happen.
